Pick Your Research Day. Sunday is ideal. Everything is in motion. Teams have announced lineups. Injury reports are finalized. The week is ahead. Spend three hours Sunday analyzing. Write down your edge selections. If you find three or four plays you actually like, that is a good week. Most weeks you will find fewer.
-
Define Your Bet Sizing. This is the actual crazy part. You bet the same amount on every play. Not 5% of your bankroll when you are really confident. Same size every time. Most successful bettors stay between 1-2% of bankroll per play. A GBP 10,000 bankroll means GBP 100-200 per bet. This prevents catastrophic losses.
-
Line Shop. DraftKings and FanDuel are not the only options. Pinnacle has different odds. Betfair has different odds. BetVictor has different odds. The same game might be 1.85 at one book and 1.90 at another. That difference over 100 bets is massive. Set up accounts at three to five books.
-
Track Everything. Write down every bet. Date, sport, team, odds, stake, result, profit/loss. This is not optional. You cannot improve if you do not measure. After 50 bets you have data. After 100 bets you have a sample size. Most people give up before 50 bets because they lose a few times and think the strategy does not work.
-
Pick Your Games Carefully. Do not bet every game. Sunday has 10 NFL games. You do not have an edge in 10 games. You probably have an edge in one or two. Bet those. Skip the others. The discipline to pass on most bets is harder than you think.
-
Specialize in One Sport. Do not try to be sharp at NFL, NBA, tennis, and esports simultaneously. You cannot develop deep knowledge in multiple sports. Pick one. Play that sport for a season. Develop expertise. Then branch out.
-
Monday Morning Review. After the weekend, review your bets. What worked? What did not? Did you make a mathematical error? Did you miss information? Did variance just hurt you? This review takes 30 minutes. Over a season, these reviews compound into pattern recognition.
-
Adjust, Don't Panic. If you lose three bets in a row, you want to change everything. Do not. Variance exists. A 55% win rate might string five losses together. You keep the system. You stick the sizing. You trust the process.
-
Season Tracking. Keep stats by the season. NFL season is 17 weeks. NBA season is 82 games. Over a full season, you will have 50+ bets probably. That is a real sample size. A single week where you win 3 of 3 is not a signal. A season where you win 28 of 50 is a signal that your edge is real.
-
Adjust Sizing Quarterly. Every quarter (13 weeks roughly), look at your profit/loss. If you are up significantly, you can increase sizing slightly. If you are down, you might decrease. But the adjustment should be gradual. Never double your sizing because you got lucky for two weeks.
